Blaj Cathedral
The Trinity Cathedral of Blaj in the Transylvanian city of Blaj is the episcopal church of the Romanian Greek Catholic Grand Archdiocese of Făgăraș and Alba Iulia . It was built between 1738 and 1765 at the instigation of Bishop Inocențiu Micu according to plans by the architects Anton Erhard Martinelli and Johann Baptist Martinelli and consecrated in 1756. In 1837, under Bishop Ioan Lemeni , the facade was supplemented by adding the two towers.
The cathedral is the first Baroque church of the Romanians , due to the fact that Transylvania belonged to the Habsburg monarchy in the 18th century.
