Inocențiu Micu-Klein
Inocențiu Micu-Klein OSBM also Ioan Inocențiu Micu-Klein (* 1692 in Sadu near Sibiu , Grand Duchy of Transylvania , † September 22, 1768 in Rome ), was Romanian-Greek-Catholic bishop of Făgăraş .
Life
Ioan Micu attended the Jesuit College in Cluj and went to the seminary in Trnava ( Hungarian : Nagyszombat ) after graduating from high school . At the age of thirty-six he was already favored by Emperor Charles VI. who appointed him his imperial advisor on February 25, 1729. In July 1729 he entered the Mukachevo Monastery . On September 5, 1729 he received the title of Baron von Clain ( German : Klein ). On September 23, 1729 he was ordained a religious priest and received the religious name Inocențiu.
On 11 October 1730 he was elected bishop, confirmed on 25 October and 5 November consecrated . The new bishop went to Vienna to campaign for more rights for the Romanian people at the imperial court. Back in his homeland he was solemnly enthroned in Făgăraş on September 28, 1732. In the years 1734–1735 he stayed mainly in Vienna in order to achieve improvements for his homeland and his diocese. With the donations collected there, he converted a monastery in Blasendorf into a seminary. In 1737 he moved the bishopric from Făgăraş to Blasendorf. He had the castle, cathedral and buildings repaired and renovated, and in 1741 he laid the foundation stone for a new Basilian monastery. In 1744 there was a dispute between Empress Maria Theresa and Bishop Inocențiu Micu Klein and he was expelled from the country. In exile in Rome he tried to come back with the help of the Holy See, but without success. They even wanted to arrest him if he entered the country without the consent of the Empress. In order not to burden the relations between the Vatican and the imperial court in Vienna even more, the bishop had to give in; he resigned on May 7, 1751.
The emeritus bishop Inocenţiu Micu Klein died on 22 September 1768 and was in the church Madonna del Pascolo buried in Rome.
