Bishop Petru Pavel Aron

Petru Pavel Aron OSBM (* 1709 or March 1712 in Bistra , Grand Duchy of Transylvania ; † January 27, 1764 in Blaj ) was a Romanian-Greek Catholic religious priest and Bishop of Făgăraş .

Life

Petru Pavel Aron, the son of a priest went in 1730 to study philosophy at the Jesuit College in Cluj . Bishop Inocențiu Micu-Klein sent him to Rome in 1738 to study theology . In 1742, after taking his religious vows , he was ordained a priest on August 4, 1743 .

After the resignation of Bishop Micu-Klein on May 7, 1751, he was elected his successor on November 4, 1751. Empress Maria Theresa appointed him bishop of Făgăraş on February 28, 1752, and Pope Benedict XIV confirmed this appointment on July 6, 1752 . He was consecrated on September 1, 1752.

Bishop Petru Pavel Aron founded and organized schools, led young men to the priesthood, enabled religious clergy to improve their training and study abroad, especially in Rome.

He died on January 27, 1764 and was buried in Blaj.
