The Cathedral of San Demetrio Megalomartire in Piana degli Albanesi is the cathedral of the Eparchy Piana degli Albanesi , one of the two Italo-Albanian dioceses of the Catholic Church in Sicily . The cathedral is dedicated to St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki .

The church was built around 1590, and the apses were painted by Pietro Novelli in 1641–1644 . With the establishment of the Eparchy Piana degli Albanesi on October 26, 1937, the feast day of St. Demetrius, it was elevated to a cathedral.

The entrance to the cathedral can be reached via a double late Baroque staircase. Above the portal a mosaic shows the enthroned Christ with the Saints George and Demetrius. The interior of the church has three aisles, the aisles are separated from the main nave by marble columns. The front part of the church with the apses is separated by an iconostasis .
