Kathleen Meyer (born December 7, 1942 in Manhattan ) is an American writer . Her best-known work is How to shoo in the forest ... from 1989

Life

Kathleen Meyer was born in Manhattan to a scientist and librarian. She grew up on the east and west coasts. After living in California , she now lives in Victor , Montana .

How to shoo in the forest

Meyer’s book is about environmentally friendly defecating in outdoor activities. As these became more and more popular, it was important for her to point out this problem. Meyer especially draws attention to the dangers of bacteria that are excreted and can contaminate water and soil. Meyer also goes into the physical difficulties of defecating outdoors, as people in the industrialized countries have largely forgotten it. In 1989 the book received the Diagram Prize .

Barefoot Hearted

Meyer's second book is about a 75-year-old barn that she and her friend Patrick buy. For her friend, the barn is an ideal place for his work as a farrier. Meyer wants to write in seclusion. First they have to drive the flies, mice, bats and skunks out of the barn. Contrary to her friend's wishes, Meyer uses pesticides and then feels guilty about it. She learns that it is morally okay to kill mice with traps. After all, it also boycotts products that contain blueberries because there is a shortage of blueberries and the black bears have nothing else to eat.
