Alois Hartmann (born October 24, 1936 in Altwis ) is a Swiss journalist and politician ( CVP ). From 1978 to 1982 he was editor-in-chief of the Catholic daily newspaper Vaterland .

Life

Hartmann grew up as the youngest of four siblings in the teaching family of community clerk Hans and Barbara née Hochstrasser. After the A Matura in of Capuchins led St. Fidelis College in Stans he studied four semesters Theology at the University of Lucerne with the intention of becoming a priest. After it had become clear to him that he did not want to commit himself to celibacy , he switched to law at the University of Freiburg and graduated with a licentiate in 1962 . As a student he was a member of the AKV Alemannia ( Swiss Student Association ) with the student name Brand.

From 1984 to 1988 he was President of the St. Karl Parish Council in Lucerne.

career

Hartmann's professional activity in politics and journalism began in 1964 at the General Secretariat of the Conservative-Christian-Social People's Party (today the Christian-Democratic People's Party ), where the party’s general secretary Martin Rosenberg had brought him as secretary. In 1968 he became head of information for the party and was given the task of renewing the press service. With the change from the denominational party to the ideologically wide open CVP, he made a decisive contribution to the new party profile and program.

From 1973 to 1977 he was in the large municipal council ( legislature ) Ostermundigen , 1976/1977 President of the CVP of the canton of Bern .

In 1973 Alois Hartmann switched from the CVP general secretariat to full-time journalism. As a federal editor he wrote for the Catholic daily newspapers Vaterland , Die Ostschweiz and Freiburger Nachrichten . He maintained special contact with the two CVP Federal Councilors Hans Hürlimann and Kurt Furgler , with whom he had already worked as CVP information chief.

In 1978 Hartmann left the Bundeshaus editorial office and became editor-in-chief of the newspaper Vaterland . In 1982 he had to vacate the post because a new management headed by Board Chairman Alphons Egli and Maihof Director Hans Richenberger wanted to lead the newspaper into a new future. His successor was Hermann Schlapp. Hartmann switched to the media service of Caritas Switzerland , initially as an employee; later he became head of information for the relief organization.

In 1988 he returned to political life, as secretary of the CVP of the canton of Lucerne , as party president of the city of Lucerne and as a member of the Grand Council (legislature, now Cantonal Council of Lucerne ). Alois Hartmann completed his professional career from 1996 to 2001 as a personal assistant to the then economics director Anton Schwingruber .

After retiring in 2001, he returned to journalistic tasks. Until 2007 he was President of the Catholic International Press Agency (Kipa-Apic, today Catholic Media Center ) and until 2010 editor of the mission magazine WeltWeit . He continues to issue several publications. His "news service", a press service that he regularly sends out to friends and acquaintances, is legendary among his wide circle of acquaintances.
