On August 8, 1965, the board of the Catholic Seminar for Social Professions in Bavaria eV school association decided, on the initiative and under the leadership of Hermann Zeit and Wilhelm Bleyer , to set up a technical school for youth and home education (for men and women). The school, located in Munich- Pasing for only a few years , was one of the first mixed-gender, denominational social training centers in Bavaria. It was also one of the first training centers in Germany specifically for youth and home education. Until then, for example, the homes, if any trained staff, were predominantly kindergarten teachers or after-school care workers.

On May 2, 1966, course A began for the first time. The condition for admission was completed vocational training. The first 24 students had e.g. B. learned the following professions: high voltage electrician, bricklayer, medical-technical assistant, legal assistant, office worker, nanny, stoker, etc. Some of the students of the first course completed the technical college for social pedagogy or a university degree later.

The new technical school saw itself as an answer to the then pressing / pressing questions that came from the fields of youth care and home education . As a result, the aforementioned fields of work were also the focus of the training. Director Hermann Zeit taught professional studies (including home pedagogy / youth studies). At that time, for example, the FEH / FE measures that can lead to residential care were still taught.

In 1967 the training facility was renamed the Technical School for Social Pedagogy . Six years later, with the entry into force of the Bavarian law on vocational schooling (January 1, 1973), it received the status of a state-recognized private specialist academy for social pedagogy .

The academy is three-class and the lessons are given by 7 full-time and over 30 part-time teachers. The students are introduced to the following extracurricular / socio-educational work areas:

  • Crèche and toddler education
  • Elementary education
  • Work with school children
  • Stationary child and youth work
  • Open child and youth work
  • Curative educational institutions (day care centers, homes, etc.)

The training center is participating in the "OptiPrax" pilot project for high school graduates, which started in Bavaria in the 2016/17 school year.

Mission statement

The denominational training institution sees itself as a community, which, as it is composed very heterogeneously and is therefore endowed with 'great non-simultaneity of consciousness' ( Karl Rahner ), offers many opportunities for experience and learning. Participation, shared responsibility, commitment, self-realization with others are important elements at the Catholic Academy for Social Education in Munich. We consider the criteria mentioned to be significant for an activity in socio-educational fields .
