Hermann time

Hermann Joseph Zeit (born March 11, 1925 in Bonn ; † August 7, 1988 in Freiburg / Br. ) Was a German social worker and was instrumental in the professionalization of social training nationwide.

Biography and work

Hermann Zeit was the fourth of seven children of the head of studies, Dr. Paul Zeit and his wife Anna, b. Sunday, the light of the world in Bonn. After graduating from high school, the young man had to do a compensatory service in Bonn's wholesale market hall, as he was not included in military service due to illness. At the same time he was still involved in the Catholic youth work of his parish. Zeit studied science and philosophy for a short time, but then decided to become a welfare worker. He completed his training at the renowned "Seminar for Welfare Care of the German Caritas Association" in Freiburg / Br. He then studied psychology at the Freiburg University. One of his academic teachers was the well-known depth psychologist Robert Hot .

Before time in 1960 was appointed director of the Munich "Catholic welfare school for men", he worked a. a. as a lecturer at the Freiburg “Seminar for Welfare Care of the German Caritas Association” and for two years as a tutor and speaker at the Victor Gollancz Foundation. From 1956 to 1959 he was also the managing director of the “Jugendhilfswerk Freiburg e. V. ". Munich became the place of his work: in 1966 he founded the denominational “Technical School for Youth and Home Education” (today: Catholic Academy for Social Pedagogy Munich ). He also initiated the establishment of the Catholic “Higher Technical School for Social Pedagogy in Construction” with a branch in Benediktbeuern. In 1971, both educational institutions were transferred to the Catholic Foundation University of Applied Sciences in Munich (with a department in Benediktbeuern). Its first founding president was Hermann Zeit, then until 1978 elected president of the university of applied sciences. Nationwide, Zeit campaigned for the conversion of welfare schools first into higher technical schools, then into technical colleges. As a result, he was a member of many government and church bodies, working groups and permanent conferences.

At the end of the winter semester 1987/88, Zeit went into early retirement for health reasons. Up to this point he taught as a professor for psychology and social work at the foundation university.

In addition to his strenuous professional obligations, Zeit was also involved in a variety of voluntary social work. He belonged to several social associations and clubs. He paid particular attention to the Catholic Men's Welfare Association Munich, founded by Adolf Mathes in 1950 . V. and the diaconate movement for which he developed a training concept.

Hermann Zeit was married to the social worker Dietlinde Hoffmann, who gave practical advice at the college for youth and home education. The marriage remained childless.

Honors

The Augsburg Bishop Josef Stimpfle presented him with the Pope Paul VI's in 1978 . awarded Commander's Cross of the New Year's Eve and in 1984 Zeit was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
