history

In 1975 the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Katholische Krankenpflege Essen (KKS) was founded by the Elisabeth Hospital Essen , Philippussift Essen and Franziskus Krankenhaus Essen clinics . The aim of the working group was to make the training of new nurses more efficient. By then, the three clinics had trained new nurses on their own for many decades. In the years that followed, more and more hospitals in Essen joined the working group. In 1979 the St. Josef Hospital in Essen-Kupferdreh, in 1984 the Marienhospital in Essen-Altenessen and the Haus-Berge Hospital. In 1990 the school received state recognition as a nursing school ; until then, recognition was still held by the clinics that were part of the working group. In 1992 the St. Vincenz Hospital in Essen-Stoppenberg was accepted into the working group. In 1994 the working group KKS was dissolved and it was converted into the Catholic School for Nursing Professions. The abbreviation KKS was retained, is still used today and adorns the school's logo. In 1996, the specialist seminar for geriatric care at the Franziskus Hospital, which has now been closed and has been converted into a senior citizens' institution, became part of the KKS. The sponsoring association was redesigned in 2002 when 19 sponsors of the elderly and outpatient care were included in the sponsoring association of the school. In 2004, the KKS specialist seminar for geriatric care merged with the specialist seminar for geriatric care at St. Josef Altenkrankenhaus in Kupferdreh. In 2007 the sponsoring association was converted into a sponsoring company. Since the founding of the KKS, over 3,500 nursing staff have been trained. In the years 1996–2001, the first nationwide model project of joint training in nursing care for the elderly, the sick and children was carried out at the KKS, which played a major role in the nationwide reorganization of nursing training . A model project to develop a curriculum for practical nursing training and the development and design of new learning fields in nursing took place between 2002 and 2006. In 2010 the Catholic clinics in Oberhausen joined the training association and, with their hospitals - St. Josef Hospital Oberhausen and Marienhospital Oberhausen - became members of the gGmbH.

St. Peter

St Peter during the renovation

In 2007 the church of St. Peter in Essen's north quarter was bought by the parish of St. Gertrud for 53,000 euros. In the course of the restructuring for this church, as a so-called "further church", the diocese of Essen had no longer made any church tax funds available. From spring 2007 to spring 2008 the church building was rebuilt for an amount of 2.8 million euros. At the beginning of April 2008 the new school was ready to move into. With the move to St. Peter, all parts of the school are now under one roof. Before the move, the elderly care was housed at the St. Josef nursing home in Kupferdreh and at the former Franziskus Hospital in Bedingrade. Nursing was at the Elisabeth Hospital in Huttrop until the spring of 2007 and temporarily moved to the Essen Technology and Development Center in Holsterhausen until the completion of St. On May 15, 2008, the official inauguration of the school took place in the presence of Essen's Ruhr Bishop Felix Genn and Mayor Anette Jäger.
