The Catholic University of Temuco ( Spanish : Universidad Católica de Temuco , short: UTemuco ) is a Roman Catholic university under ecclesiastical law in Temuco ( Chile ).

University

It was founded on September 8, 1959 by the Bishop of Temuco , Alejandro Menchaca Lira , who was supported by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile . It was the first higher education institution in the Región de la Araucanía . In 1972 the college received the status of a Catholic university and built up the focus of teacher training and further education for the southern region of Chile. On July 10, 1991, the university received full state recognition and autonomy.

The university with around 9,200 students has 54 undergraduate courses, seven master's programs, 42 graduate programs and 15 postgraduate courses (as of 2013).

Rector is Aliro Bórquez Ramírez ; The Grand Chancellor is Héctor Eduardo Vargas Bastidas , Bishop of Temuco.
