Héctor Eduardo Vargas Bastidas
Héctor Eduardo Vargas Bastidas SDB (born December 29, 1951 in Valdivia , Región de los Ríos , Chile ) is Bishop of Temuco .
Life
He went to school in the Salesian Institute of Valdivia and then entered the seminary of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Santiago de Chile to enter this religious community himself. After 1972 his first and 1978, the perpetual vows stored and in the meantime at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile had studied philosophy and theology, he was on 15 July 1978 by his novice master Tomás Osvaldo González Morales , now bishop of Punta Arenas , for Ordained priest . From 1979 to 1984 he worked as a pastor at various Salesian schools in Punta Arenas , Talca and Santiago de Chile. From 1982 to 1984 he was the episcopal vicar , responsible for youth pastoral care, in the diocese of Punta Arenas . From 1987 to 1988 he worked as a trainer in the post-novitiate house of Santiago de Chile. From 1989 to 1990 he was director of the Salesian Agricultural School of Linares and Episcopal Vicar for Education in the Diocese of Linares . From 1991 to 1993 he was the provincial councilor and provincial commissioner for youth pastoral care and education in the Chilean province of Don Bosco's Salesians. From 1994 to 1996 he took over the office of director of the Gratitud Nacional in Santiago de Chile instead of the assignment for youth pastoral care . From 1997 to 1999 he worked there as the principal of the Salesian High School De la Alameda . From 2000 to 2001 he was again provincial councilor and provincial commissioner for youth pastoral care and education in his province. In 1997 he was elected President of the Federazione delle Istituzioni di Educazione Particolare in Chile. Finally, from 2001 onwards, he served as vicar provincial.
During his studies he had also obtained a master's degree in pedagogy from the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome .
On November 25, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of San Marcos de Arica . He received his episcopal ordination from Francisco Javier Cardinal Errázuriz Ossa on January 4, 2004; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Patricio Infante Alfonso and Archbishop Ricardo Ezzati Andrello SDB.
Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Temuco on May 14, 2013 .
Héctor Vargas Bastidas is Grand Chancellor of the Catholic University of Temuco .
