Schoenstatt Fathers
The Schoenstatt Fathers ( ISch ) are a secular institute and, as a Catholic priestly community, part of the Schoenstatt Movement . It was established on July 18, 1965 as the youngest branch of the Schoenstatt Movement as an institute under papal law .
history
The Schoenstatt Movement arose in the Pallottine Boarding School in Schoenstatt at the beginning of the 20th century and initially consisted mainly of Pallottine students. The Pallottine Order and the Schoenstatt Movement remained closely connected for almost 50 years, and Pallottine Fathers held spiritual functions in the Schoenstatt Movement. However, there were always tensions between Schoenstatt and the Pallottines, which finally led to the legal separation of the Schoenstatt Work from the Pallottines in 1964. As a result, the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers was established on July 18, 1965.
After the Schoenstatt Sisters of Mary moved their motherhouse to Berg Schoenstatt in 1967, the Fathers took over the Sonneck House as the seat of the Generalate.
In 1992 the Generalate moved into the newly built father's house on Mount Sion .
structure
The Fathers are divided into provinces and regions with branches in a total of 19 countries: Argentina , Australia , Brazil , Burundi , Chile , Germany , Ecuador , England , India , Italy , Mexico , Nigeria , Paraguay , Poland , Portugal , Switzerland , Spain , the Czech Republic and in the United States of America . The General Administration has its seat in the Father's house on Mount Sion in Schoenstatt (Vallendar) , the place where the Schoenstatt Movement was founded. The superior general (“pater familias”) is elected by the general chapter for 12 years. Father Juan Pablo Catoggio has been Superior General since 2015 and is supported by the four councils in the General Administration.
The institute has a total of 330 fathers and over 130 seminarians worldwide .
tasks
The Fathers work to a large extent in pastoral and managerial functions in the various branches of the Schoenstatt Movement. However, many are also active in parish pastoral work in the dioceses or are entrusted with other tasks outside the Schoenstatt Movement.
