Michael Johannes Marmann

Michael Johannes Marmann ISch (born September 16, 1937 in Berlin ; † February 26, 2019 in Schoenstatt ) was a German Roman Catholic religious priest . From 1990 to 2003 he was Superior General of the Secular Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers and thus also Chairman of the General Presidium of the international Schoenstatt Movement .

Life

Michael Johannes Marmann studied Catholic theology in Bonn and Munich and received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Cologne on July 12, 1963 through Joseph Cardinal Frings in Cologne Cathedral .

After meeting the founder of the Schoenstatt Movement , Josef Kentenich , he joined the Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers. In the community from 1972 to 1975 he was spiritual guide of the girls' community of the Schoenstatt Movement . After further studies in Tübingen and Regensburg, he was in 1973 when Joseph Ratzinger to Dr. theol. PhD . He took on tasks within the Schoenstatt Movement in accompanying various communities of the movement. From 1983 to 1991 he led the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement in Germany.

In 1990 he was elected Superior General by the General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers for a term of 12 years. His term of office was particularly marked by his commitment to unity within the Schoenstatt Movement and by his ecumenical commitment. He was one of the founding figures of the network Together for Europe . After the end of his term of office, he worked as a priestly employee of the family movement from 2004 to 2008 and as head of the student council of his community in Munich from 2006 to 2010. From 2010 to 2016 he was Rector of the Adoration Community of the Schoenstatt Fathers on Mount Sion , where he was also Rector eccesiae of the Original Shrine of the Movement since 2013 . He has lived in Munich since 2016 and returned to Schoenstatt in early 2019 after being diagnosed with a serious illness. His grave is in the cemetery of the Schoenstatt Fathers on Mount Sion.
