Catholic hymn book of German-speaking Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Catholic Hymnal of German-speaking Switzerland (KG) is the official prayer and hymn book of the Roman Catholic dioceses in Switzerland for the German-speaking communities. It was introduced in 1998.

history

As early as 1966, nine years before the praise of God for Germany and Austria , the first common German-language prayer and hymn book for all Swiss dioceses (KGB) was put into use. In 1977 the DOK decided to adopt the common part of the Praise of God for a future German- Swiss Catholic hymnbook, but revised this decision in 1985. Instead, in the following ten years, in close cooperation with the Swiss Evangelical Reformed Hymnal Commission, which was also preparing the RG , the new KG created. Both hymnbooks were officially introduced with an ecumenical television service on November 1, 1998 in Lucerne .

Concept and structure

The KG is based on the renewed understanding of the liturgy of the Second Vatican Council . As part of the Participatio actuosa , it is the community's «role book». The overall structure «follows a life theological approach. It starts from the mystery of our communion with the Triune God (first part), shows its development in human life (second part) and refers to our mission as Christians in this world (third part) ».

Prayers and chants were not separated, but assigned to the respective topic. Apart from Gregorian chants and traditional and new strophic songs , including new hymns from the 20th century, are Psalms , Kehrversgesänge and canons as well as some dialectal songs included especially for children.

Wherever possible, the joint versions of the working group for ecumenical songs were adopted and deviations from familiar text and melody versions were accepted.
