History and parish structure

In the 1950s, the Lengnau Catholics were still cared for by the Grenchen parish . Then the parish of St. Maria in Biel took over the service. In 1967 the parish of Pieterlen-Lengnau was established and on January 1st, 1970 the parish of Pieterlen-Lengnau-Meinisberg was founded. The pastoral area Biel / Bienne has existed since September 2014. These include the four parishes Brother Klaus, Christ-König and St. Maria, Biel, and St. Martin, Pieterlen. The catchment area of the parish includes the two centers, the Ecumenical Center in Pieterlen and the Catholic Parish Center in Lengnau, the places: Pieterlen , Lengnau BE and Meinisberg

The church center in Lengnau was created by the architect Franz Füeg in 1975. Construction began on February 15, the foundation stone was laid on April 3, and on December 14, 1975 the church was consecrated for the patronage of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ .

Building description

To the west of the Lengnau cemetery, at Emil-Schiblistrasse 3, is the light, modern church building. With its pavilion-like construction, it does not look like a church in the traditional sense, but the sacred purpose of the complex is recognizable through the free-standing bell tower and the wooden cross. The square building has a circumferential ribbon of windows at the level of the inner truss of the flat roof. The facades are filled with white panels lying between the wooden supports. The western plinth area was expanded for two classrooms in 2000 and the bell tower was moved to the terrace on top.

Installation and ceiling construction

The ceiling of the hall-like interior is divided and supported by two wooden trusses with wooden supports in the middle. Assembly and civil protection rooms are located in the basement. To the south-facing entrance area there is a wood-clad installation with rounded corners. It was intended as a prayer room and was later converted into a conversation room. The large assembly room is furnished with black shell chairs that can be placed depending on the type of event.

A special sacral area has been set up on the north wall with the mobile and unadorned objects and furniture. The altar table with a black top has chromed metal feet at the corners. The high cross and the lectern made of thin steel tubes stand on legs curved in the shape of a cross. A positive organ with visible wooden pipes arranged like a staircase completes the sparse interior. Only the statue of a protective cloak Madonna from a past century, which is placed on the west wall, differs from the sober furnishings.

The architect Franz Füeg wrote: “In the building that has been completed today, everything is simple but practical. The church can also be used as a hall for lectures, musical performances and other occasions. - In the small house, the narrowness should be avoided and a slight width created. - Every visible part of the building structure is part of the architecture ... »The Pius Church (Meggen), built in 1964 to 1966, is a much larger church built by Franz Füeg in a similar architectural style .

Chimes

In the free-standing bell tower, three bells in the tone sequence a ', c' and d ' ring in accordance with the ringing of the Evangelical Reformed Church . They were inaugurated as a private foundation at the same time as the Church.
