Catholic rectory in Grombach

The Catholic rectory in Grombach , a district of Bad Rappenau in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1754.

history

The rectory not far from the Catholic Church of St. Margaretha on the main street of Grombach goes back to a previous building, which was mentioned in the Worms Synodal already in 1496 . The construction work originally lay with the Wimpfen monastery , to which Grombach belonged before the Reformation. The historic building was destroyed in flames during the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1505, like the whole town. Little is known about the successor buildings. The present rectory was completed in 1754, and the St. Margaretha Church was also renovated in the following years.

In 1873 the parsonage included a barn with a one-story barn, a pigsty with a two-story shed, a one-story wash house and a one-story wooden shed. The associated parish garden was created when the old Catholic schoolhouse was demolished in 1891 after the construction of the Grombach schoolhouse . Renovations took place in 1900 and 1969.

The rectory was inhabited by the local Catholic pastor until 1991 and also served as a repository for church records and the parish archive. After Pastor Ernst Dochat left, the Catholic community was united with that of the neighboring village of Obergimpern . The archive material came to Obergimpern, and the house has been used by church groups ever since.

description

The rectory is a gable-independent, massive two-storey building with a half-hipped roof , built on a massive basement, with corner blocks and a two-sided staircase to the portal in the middle of the five-axis western eaves side. The portal is crowned by a blown triangular gable with two oval cartouches amid rocaille and scrollwork decorations . The left cartouche shows two keys, which are attributed to St. Peter stand for the diocese of Worms and the Wimpfen pen. The right cartouche contains a chronogram with a Latin saying from Luke 22, from which the year of construction 1754 can be deduced. On the north side of the gable facing the street, a niche is let into the facade below the eaves, in which a figure of St. Barbara found. The figure was lost during the 1969 renovation.
