Grömbach was first mentioned as Gruonbach on September 10, 1075 in a document from King Heinrich IV for the Hirsau monastery . In the 14th century, Grömbach came into the possession of the Counts of Hohenberg. In 1398 it was sold to the Margraviate of Baden. 1603 the place is assigned to Württemberg and the Oberamt Altensteig.

In 1812 Grömbach was incorporated into the Freudenstadt Regional Office, which was dissolved in 1938 and continued as the Freudenstadt district. In 1817 53 Grömbacher emigrated to the area around Lodz . Towards the end of the Second World War , six houses were destroyed in an air raid on April 7, 1945. In the spring of 1953, a hurricane-like snow storm caused great damage. During a formation flight on August 11, 1955, one of two US transport planes crashed into the Grombacher Forest, killing 66 soldiers. Between 1981 and 1982 the Gassenäcker building area was developed . In 1987 the Ubbach II building area followed .

religion

1390 Grömbach receives its own chaplaincy; before that the parish was a branch of the parish in Haiterbach. The former mass priest Jakob Schönfeld from Günzburg came to “Grömbach im Durlachischen” in 1578. During his term of office, the parish of Grömbach could convert to the Reformation (1599?). 1603 Grömbach is assigned to Württemberg and the Oberamt Altensteig. In 1727 Wörnersberg, Garrweiler and Schernbach are listed as branches of the Grömbach parish in the stock register. In 1807 it became part of the dean's office in Freudenstadt and finally in 1920 it became part of the dean's office in Nagold, and thus together with Wörnersberg and Garrweiler as the Evangelical parish of Grömbach, Wörnersberg and Garrweiler, since 2019 it became part of the Calw-Nagold church district of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg - despite belonging to the Freudenstadt district.

Churches

Evangelical George Church

A chapel dedicated to St. Georg in Grömbach, previously a branch of the parish in Haiterbach, received its own chaplaincy in 1390. The Protestant Georgskirche in Grömbach received its first bell in 1657, and another was cast in 1730. After the dilapidated church was demolished, today's larger church was built in 1783 in the "basic pattern of classical architecture" by church council builder Wilhelm Friedrich Goez with a flat-roofed choir-less nave and 3/8 degree in the east, attached to an older tower to the south. The baptismal font, the altar table and the high pulpit were originally arranged in the church axis. The south and north legs of the three-sided gallery extend to the beginning of the choir closure. The sacristy is outside on the east side with stairs to the pulpit.

A first renovation was necessary in 1833, when the gallery and the chairs were given the white-gray color accent. Further renovations followed in 1884, 1932 and 1976. To commemorate those who died in the First World War from the parishes of the parish, colored lead glazing was donated to the windows of the chancel in 1919: In the north-east window a scene in which Jesus turns comfortingly to a soldier and his family, in the south-east window the sinking Peter and Jesus' call to faith. The design for these windows was probably made by the renowned Stuttgart artist Rudolf Yelin the Elder. Ä. come.

The south and north legs of the three-sided gallery were shortened in 1932, so that since then the colored lead glazing of the two chancel windows has come into its own and the church has a freer chancel.
