geography

Geographical location

The state-approved climatic health resort Glatten is located around ten kilometers southeast of the district town of Freudenstadt , nestled between meadows and forests in the northern Black Forest . The place is traversed by the eponymous river Glatt . The Old High German water body name "glat" or "glad" means, among other things, "clear, shiny, pure".

Community structure

The formerly independent communities of Böffingen and Neuneck belong to the community of Glatten . The village of Böffingen and the houses of Bellenstein and electricity works belong to the former municipality of Böffingen. The village of Glatten, the Lattenberg homestead and the Hammerschmiede house belong to the municipality of Glatten within the limits of December 31, 1973. The village of Neuneck, the hamlet of Rinkwasen and the Schellenberg and Ziegelacker farms belong to the former community of Neuneck.

In the area of ​​the former municipality of Neuneck lies the Gaisnang desert , of which the Gaisweilerhof remained until it also disappeared in 1632.

The two former municipalities of Böffingen and Neuneck are set up as localities within the meaning of the Baden-Württemberg municipal code, each with its own local council and mayor as its chairman.

history

Early history

The historical place names "Glatheim" and "villa Gladeheim" mean "Heim an der Glatt" (glad, glat = shiny, bright, pure) and are references to an origin in the Merovingian period. (5th to 8th century)

On the occasion of two donations to the Lorsch monastery , the place was first mentioned as Glatheim on June 8, 767 in the Lorsch Codex . There were four more mentions by 791.

In 1308 the Counts of Hohenberg acquired Glatten as pledge from Anna von Fürstenberg and her husband Johann von Geroldseck with Dornstetten. The place has belonged to Württemberg since 1320.

Religions

Glatten has been evangelical since the Reformation . The Lutheran church with the steeple from the 12th century is characteristic of the town. To date there is no Roman Catholic parish in town. The New Apostolic Church is represented in Glatten.

Dams

Since the 1920s there have been dams in Glatten an Glatt and Lauter to drain the water through the tunnel structures to the Heimbach reservoir in (Loßburg-) Sterneck and from there to the hydropower plant in (Dornhan-) Bettenhausen.

Flood retention basin

The flood retention structure of the Glatttal Flood Protection Association, which was established ten years after the Glatt flood on February 15, 1990, was also completed in 2010 and built upstream on the Glatt.
