Kathrin Gaál (born January 3, 1976 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Since May 24, 2018, she has been the Vienna City Councilor in the State Government and City Senate Ludwig , responsible for housing and women. From 2005 to 2018 she was a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council .

Life

Kathrin Gaál was born as the daughter of the politician Anton Gaál . After graduating from high school , she began studying law. She is active with the Favoritner women and in the “Team for Vienna” and was district councilor between 2001 and 2005. From November 18, 2005, she represented the SPÖ as a member of the state parliament and councilor in Vienna. In the 18th legislative period she was a member of the “Urban Development and Transport” committee. It tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-March 2020 , shortly after exit restrictions came into effect in the wake of the pandemic. She experienced a mild course of the illness with a day of fever and was cared for by her husband during 2 weeks of quarantine. On April 18, she reported in an ORF interview about her experience of her social isolation, for example from her child and father, and about returning to work.

Gaál is vice-president of the Vienna Business Agency , member of the district board, member of the district women's committee and section women officer in Favoriten. She is married and has a daughter.
