Anton Gaál

Anton Gaál (born March 14, 1940 in Trautmannsdorf ) is an Austrian civil servant, politician ( SPÖ ) and former member of the Austrian National Council .

education and profession

Anton Gaál attended elementary and secondary school between 1946 and 1954 and then graduated from vocational school by 1957. He then worked as an office clerk, did military service between 1958 and 1959 and joined the Vienna Security Guard in 1960 , where he attended the police school between 1960 and 1962. Gaál began his police service in 1963 at the district police station Vienna- favorites and visited the parallel Maturaschule (1962 to 1965). In 1974 he moved to the Federal Ministry of the Interior as a consultant , where he was on leave in 1985. Gaál was the managing director and president of the Austrian Civil Defense Association from 1986, and honorary president from 2010.

Political career

Anton Gaál was deputy district chairman of Vienna-Favoriten in 1984, was sworn in as a member of the Vienna City Council and a member of the Vienna State Parliament in 1984 and moved to the National Council in 1990. In 1988 he was district party chairman of the SPÖ Favoriten, since 1989 he has been a member of the federal party executive and deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Vienna.

Between November 5, 1990 and September 26, 2007 Anton Gaál was a member of the National Council. He was a member of the immunity, internal affairs and national defense committees for several periods and, most recently, the Eurofighter committee of inquiry. In addition, Gaál was defense spokesman for the SPÖ parliamentary club. In 2007, Gaál retired from parliament, but remained chairman of the Parliamentary Armed Forces Complaints Commission, which was renamed the Parliamentary Armed Forces Commission in 2009 .

Private

Anton Gaál was President of the Wiener Trabrennbahnverein from March 17, 2004. In 2017 he was succeeded by Peter Truzla in this role.

His daughter Kathrin Gaál is also a politician.
