Kathy Young (born October 21, 1945 in Santa Ana , California ) is a former American pop singer who released records in the 1960s.
Career
Kathy Young grew up in Long Beach, California , from the age of two , her father worked as an electrician. Her mother could play the guitar and lead a church choir. Before Kathy was ten years old, she also played the guitar and sang in the choir. Encouraged by a friend, she took part in a singing talent competition when she was still school. Despite her stage anxiety, which she later suffered from, Kathy won the competition. She was thus qualified for next year's competition, in which she also emerged as the winner. On the occasion of a concert by the pop group The Innocents in 1960, Young got in touch with the manager of the group Jim Lee, who was also HR director of the Hollywood record company Indigo, and offered him some of their demo tapes. After a few test recordings, Lee signed a recording deal with the 15-year-old, and in September 1960 the first single was produced with Young at Indigo.
Jim Lee had chosen the old rhythm and blues title A Thousand Stars for the production , with which the group The Rivileers had come to success in 1954. Young was accompanied by the Innocents, with whom Indigo had already produced a single. On the label of the artist was "Kathy Young with The Innocents", which was also the case with the following singles with Young. One month after its publication, the US music magazine Billbord added Young's title A Thousand Stars to its Hot 100 hit list , where the song worked its way up to third place. The single was sold millions of times. Young was also able to place himself in the Hot 100 again with the titles Happy Birthday Blues (30th) and Magic Is the Night (80th), which were released in 1961 .
After Kathy Young had produced eight singles and one long-playing record for Indigo by 1962, she followed her producer Jim Lee to his new record company Monogram, where there was initially only one single in August 1962. It wasn't until 1964 that two singles appeared again with Kathy Young, on which she sang with Chris Montez . After that, she saw her recording career as ended and moved to Great Britain. There she met the founder of the British pop trio The Walker Brothers John Walker aka John Maus, and both married in 1965. After they returned to the United States for divorce in 1969, Young pursued various activities, but only turned back to music in the late 1990s to. She has appeared in the rock 'n' roll show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in New Jersey, among others .
