Katja Kittler (born March 1, 1968 in Bad Mannhagen ) is a former German handball player .

Association and training

In the GDR, Kittler played for the women's team at SC Empor Rostock , paid just 500 East German marks a month. Here she was in the 1986/87 season with 108 goals (49 seven meters) top scorer in the GDR league and won the GDR championship in 1989. In Rostock she completed her intermediate diploma as a certified sports teacher alongside her athletic career. At the beginning of the 1990s, Kittler, who was the first active GDR athlete to move to the West on November 17, 1989, was 1.85 meters tall and was the tallest Bundesliga handball player. The back court player, who now successfully completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk, was playing for TV Lützellinden at the time . There she was part of the team that won the European Cup in 1991. In 1993 she was also German champion with Lützellinden. Two years later she was a member of the Frankfurt HC women's team . From 1997 to 2002 the communications specialist Kittler studied social and economic communication at the Berlin University of the Arts .

National team

In addition, Kittler was a member of both the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR national team and was also part of Germany's women's national team after reunification . This makes her the only woman who played in three national teams. She played 67 international matches.
