Katrin Rothe (* 1970, in Gera ) is a German film director , animator and author.

Life

Katrin Rothe studied experimental film design at the Berlin University of the Arts . Her debut film "Dunkler Lipstick Makes Seriöser" (2003) was nominated for the German Television Award and the Prix ​​Europa . Her four-part documentary series “Stellmichein” received a Grimme Prize in 2007, as did the documentary “Concrete gold - how the financial crisis came into my living room” in 2014. In 2011 she was a member of the jury at the International Dokfest Munich . In 2017 she was invited to 25 festivals with her film "1917 - The True October", an animated historical documentary, including Festival d'Animation Annecy , the Moscow International Film Festival and Mostra Sao Paulo. In this film, Katrin Rothe reconstructs the Russian interregnum from diaries and memoirs of artists. She uses a mixture of two-dimensional drawing and three-dimensional puppet trick, inspired by the aesthetics of the time. Katrin Rothe lives and works in Berlin.
