The Katutura State Hospital ( English Katutura Intermediate Hospital , in German about Intermediärkrankenhaus Katutura ; formerly Katutura State Hospital ) is one of two state hospitals in the Namibian capital Windhoek . The hospital is located in the Katutura district directly on the B1 national road .
With 749 beds it is only slightly smaller than the Windhoek Central Hospital (782 beds). The hospital serves as one of three national training centers for medical students at the University of Namibia .
Due to renovation backlogs, there were public complaints between 2005 and 2008 about unsustainable conditions in the hospital (including dirty drinking water, no electricity). A large investment measure was initiated and in 2008 a state-of-the-art solar - assisted hot water system was put into operation.
