The Windhoek Central Hospital ( English Windhoek Central Hospital , WCH) is one of two state hospitals in the Namibian capital Windhoek . The hospital is located in the Windhoek-Nord district . It is the largest hospital in the country. It was built in 1982 and opened in 1984.

The WCH serves as one of three national training centers for medical students at the University of Namibia . Since November 17, 2009, it has been the country's first full-fledged university hospital . It is also the only state hospital with the highest level of care.

Facilities

In addition to outpatient and inpatient basic facilities, the hospital has an eye clinic , a psychiatric, oncological and radiological department with computer tomography . Since June 23, 2008 (officially opened on October 8, 2010) the hospital has had a cardiology department, which is one of only three on the African continent to perform open heart surgery.

1056 people work in the central hospital. The number of beds is 855. In 2006, more than 15,000 outpatients, almost 16,000 inpatients and 10,000 in the eye clinic were cared for. 7760 operations were carried out.
