List of hospitals in Namibia

This is a list of the hospitals, health centers and clinics in Namibia .

The health system in Namibia is from the Department of Health and Human Services ( English Ministry of Health & Social Services ) coordinates and monitors. This is divided into regional (for 13 regions ) directorates and seven higher-level, national directorates. The operation of the state hospitals and clinics is subject to the ministry, with this practically taking place through the regional directorates.

The state and church health facilities are divided into categories A to E in descending order of their care level:

• Health stations - serve exclusively to educate the population with regard to health problems
• Class E clinics
  • Small clinics, ensure the minimum supply of the population and advise them on health issues; at least one health worker is on site
  • Large clinics, ensure basic services for the population and advise them on health issues; at least one nurse is present for 40 hours per week; Emergency facility throughout; at least three beds
• Class D - health centers, meet the requirements of a clinic and also have x-ray machines , a laboratory and an operating theater
  • Rural health centers have at least ten beds
  • Day health centers are located in larger towns, have no beds, but are visited more regularly by a doctor
• Class C - district hospitals ( English Intermediate Hospital ) fulfill all tasks of clinics and health centers and support them. They have all the facilities to continuously treat and prevent simple illnesses, a pharmacy , doctors and nurses who are always present, and the training of health workers. In addition, they must have an intensive care unit .
• Class B - main hospitals (English Intermediate Hospital ) fulfill all tasks of the lower classes and specialized health services; nationwide three facilities in Oshakati, Katutura and Rundu (as of December 2019)
• Class A - National Referral Hospital (English National Referral Hospital ) are the highest level of hospitals in Namibia. This level is only fulfilled by the Windhoek Central Hospital . 99 percent of all cases of illness can be treated here, including open-heart operations. In 2020, the construction of an equivalent facility in Ondangwa is to begin.

The individual regions are partially divided into health districts, each of which should have at least one district hospital (class C).
