Kombat is a settlement and former mine in northern Namibia in the Otjozondjupa region , on the border with the Oshikoto region . The name Kombat means "place of the giraffe " or "drinking giraffes".
history
Kombat, located on the B8 national road from Otavi to Grootfontein , was founded on the edge of the Kombat copper mine . This was operated for a long time by Tsumeb Corporation Limited and was then in the hands of Weatherly International , London until 2009 .
In the mine many rare minerals such as, among others, were Britvinit , Glaukochroit , Hämatophanit , Jakobsit , manganosite , richterite and Sahlinit found. For the minerals asisite , Carlfrancisit , Damarait , Grootfonteinit , Hereroit , Holdawayit , Jaffeit , Janchevit , Johninnesit , Kombatit , Ribbeit , Roymillerit , Vladkrivovichevit and Yangit applies Kombat also as a type locality .
Ownership
Kombat has been privately owned by Knowledge Katti since 2015 and (as of November 2015) was offered to the government for 160 million Namibian dollars . The government rejected this and already regards the settlement as state land. Since 2018 rents have been collected from residents, but they have been paying off official papers for the properties they have bought since 2000. According to Katti, only a few apartments belong to the residents.
economy
In addition to the mining industry , which has been closed since 2007 , the area is mainly used for cattle breeding . There is a hospital and a golf course. Few people have lived in Kombat since mining stopped.
The huge groundwater resources in the area are intended to supply the capital Windhoek (as of 2015).
