Maltahoehe is a village in the region Hardap in Namibia .

The place is about 110 kilometers west of Mariental on the main road C19 and has about 2100 inhabitants. Its name comes from the district captain Henning von Burgsdorff , who ran a police station of the German colonial administration here in 1895 and named the place after his wife Malta. The village was officially founded in 1899.

economy

The town is the center of the Karakul breed , which is important for Namibia, and also serves to supply the surrounding farms. The bar in the Maltahöhe Hotel is a popular meeting point in town for farmers and tourists who mostly just pass through. The hotel was founded in 1907, making it the oldest country hotel in Namibia. Duwisib Castle is not far from the village .
