Fransfontein , historically Franzfontein , is a settlement in the Kunene region in Namibia . Fransfontein is located in a gorge of the Fransfontein Mountains , a limestone mountain range that stretches for around 200 km in an east-west direction to Outjo .
Fransfontein received official status as a settlement in 2007 . The village was first mentioned in the 1870s and settled from 1880. Fransfontein has (as of 2011) 533 inhabitants on an area of 244,566 hectares .
The town of Khorixas is located around 12 kilometers south of Fransfontein .
