Eenhana has been the capital and administrative seat of Ohangwena , one of the " Four O Regions " , since 1992 . The city is located in one of the poorest regions of Namibia , but is experiencing high growth rates, especially due to immigration from the surrounding area. The constituency of the same name has a total of about 45,000 inhabitants; 5600 of them live in the city itself. Eenhana is known as a forest city because it is located within a tropical forest.

Eenhana means something like calf in the Oshivambo dialect and has been a hunting ground since the end of the 19th century. This has grown into a small town over the past few decades, and Eenhana now has an asphalt road to other cities in the region further west, as well as a number of banks and schools. Mahangu is a typical food in the region.

Eenhana received city status on April 15, 1999 and became independent in 2002.
