The Katzinett is a historical museum about cats . It shows the cat in art and culture through the centuries and from around the world. The focus is on everyday objects from the Belle Époque .

history

The private museum was opened in 2010 by Claudia Stock-Kühn in the Friesenheim district of Ludwigshafen .

"Katzinett" is a suitcase word made up of KATZe and KabINETT (an adjoining room for collections of special art objects) and is registered as a trademark.

The collection includes several thousand cat exhibits from a reservoir of 11,000 cat depictions, ranging from rice grain to human size. The focus of the collection is around 1900, for example porcelain from Royal Copenhagen , but extends from 1640 to the present day and also includes curiosities such as opium pipes or Karl Lagerfeld's Choupette figure.

The concept of a cat museum received repeated coverage in the press and on television. In 2014 the Südwestrundfunk portrayed the cat and the cat collector standing behind him in its magazine Kaffee oder Tee .
