The Caucasian columbine ( Aquilegia olympica ) is a species in the genus Akeleien ( Aquilegia ) in the family of Ranunculaceae (Ranunculaceae).
description
The Caucasian Columbine is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 30 to 50, rarely up to 80 centimeters. The flowers are two-colored. The bracts are 20 to 45 × 13 to 20 millimeters in size and blue to purple. The plate is 14 to 20 millimeters long and whitish. The spur measures 15 to 20 × 5 to 9 millimeters in diameter at the base and is blue to purple. The stamens are about as long as the plate. The anthers are dark. The five to eight fruits are 20 to 30 millimeters long.
The flowering time is in May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.
Occurrence
The Caucasian Columbine occurs in the Caucasus , Transcaucasia , northern Turkey and northern Iran . The species grows in forests, bushes and on damp meadows at altitudes of 1220 to 3645 meters.

The Caucasian Columbine is sometimes used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and groups of trees. She has been in culture since 1896.
