The Kaukausib is a rivier in the former diamond restricted area in southern Namibia . Often referred to as the Kaukausib Mulde (see Vlei ), it runs in the middle of the Namib from the south to the north-northwest. At the upper end of the Kaukausib there is a spring that carries water throughout the year and is a drinking place for the various animals, especially oryx and ostriches . The Kaukausib source is located 62 km southeast of Lüderitz and 40 km east of the Atlantic coast at 375 m. ü. M. (1235 ft). In the picture on the right, various oryx can be seen at the source. A dozen ostriches move away from the source towards the lower left corner of the picture.

The catchment area is 5,481.399 km².

At the Kaukausib spring the oxen used to be watered on the march from Lüderitzbucht to Aus .

"... and soon afterwards the Kaukausib waterhole was filled with noise and dust, with pounding and ox roar."

- Meno Holst : Lüderitz fought for southwest p.118 (1941)

The book Diamonds in the Desert describes how August Stauch founded a company called the Kaukausibtal Diamantengesellschaft at the beginning of the 20th century .
