Kauler Hof
The Kauler Hof is a restaurant in the Kaule district of Bergisch Gladbach in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district .
history
The oldest preserved half-timbered house in the city of Bergisch Gladbach is the Kauler Hof. The Kaule estate was first mentioned around 1650 and was then called Maurergut . It is also likely to be one of the oldest restaurants in the city, as it was in operation as early as 1844. So far, however, the exact date of the construction of the current building could not be determined.
As the first owner of the farm in 1650 a Jean Curten with the designation "Maurer auf der Kaulen" is registered. As such, he was considered influential. His daughter Katharina married the Wüllenweber (wool weaver, = weaver of wool ) Matthias Marx in 1665 and received the Kauler Hof as a dowry . After that, the farm was continued to operate by various other owners. In 1844, the farmer Wilhelm Eschbach , who lived in the Kaule, bought the property for 300 thalers and immediately opened a restaurant there. Over the years the Kauler Hof became the center of village life.
monument
The building is registered as architectural monument no. 113 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach .
