Pierre Kauthen

Pierre Kauthen (born July 30, 1936 in Differdange , Luxembourg ) is a Luxembourg high school teacher i. R., community politician and historian .

Life

Pierre Kauthen worked as a teacher at the classical grammar school in Echternach (Lycée Classique d'Echternach) from 1961 to 1996 , where he taught French , Latin and ancient Greek . From 1980 to 1984 he was assistant director of the school.

From 1976 to 1996, Pierre Kauthen was a member of the city council of Echternach and from 1982 to 1997 he was first alderman (called first alderman in Luxembourg).

Pierre Kauthen's services to the promotion of the French language and culture - as a teacher and as long-time president of the Echternach section of the Amitiés françaises (1967–1997) - were recognized by the French state in 1978 with his appointment as Chevalier in the Ordre des Palmes académiques .

Pierre Kauthen was President of the Willibrordus Building Association in Echternach from 1989 to 2014. In this capacity, he was from 2002 to 2009 coordinator of the working group that the application file to receive the Dancing Procession of Echternach in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO had worked. This application was accepted in November 2010.

Pierre Kauthen has published a number of studies and articles focusing on the Echternach jumping procession, Willibrordus cult and Echternach local history. He has translated various chronicles written in Latin from the abbey or parish of Echternach into French or German.
