Kay Voigtmann (* 1968 in Zeulenroda ) is a German illustrator.

After attending school, he took up an unpopular apprenticeship and work as a precision mechanic in Gera, which he completed in 1987. He belongs to the circle around the Klaushaus, association for art and culture, in Gera and was responsible for the literature series Spätlese and various exhibition projects . From 1997 to 2002 he studied at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig. There his teachers were Karl-Georg Hirsch, Hildegard Korger, Volker Pfüller and Albrecht von Bodecker . He finished his studies with a diploma in the specialist class for illustration at Pfüller, with the illustrations (17 allgraphs) for Burkhard Spinnen's Lego bricks and has been working as a freelancer in Gera since 2002.

In the meantime, he designed the graphic design for the chocolates receding hairline , along with Joachim B. Schulze, which were also applied for a patent. In 2001 he illustrated together with his artist colleague Erik Buchholz from Gera, with 17 lithographs, the text “Mr. Neitherkorn und das Schicksal "by Ingo Schulze , this volume is the 107th publication of Edition Mariannenpresse and was published in an edition of 100 signed and numbered copies. This was followed by the volume Burkhard Spinnen "Lego bricks", expanded by 12 stories and drawings, which was illustrated throughout by Kay Voigtmann with the amiable "potato people". These drawings not only visualize the text, but often add some coherent details to it, published in 2004 by Schöffling & Co. Verlagbuchhandlung Frankfurt / Main.

In his drawings and illustrations, bizarre beings make their appearance, they move in strange rooms, worlds and scenarios that appear beyond the here and now and they are also an occasion to move with his characters in other worlds and to move there - es are places where history and stories are told. Texts are always inspirations for the artist for his work.

In key word sequence 1, issue 5 2004 , published for the Leipziger Bibliophilen - Abend eV, Voigtmann, Jens Sparschuhs illustrated ---- from the table with nine expressive drawings and two copper engravings. The edition is 100 numbered and signed copies.

This was followed by Jens Sparschuh's experimental travel novel, Waldwärts stories in Edition Büchergilde, each beginning with a letter of the alphabet. Jens Sparschuh tells a story 26 times from A to Z that is congenially and idiosyncratically illustrated by Kay Voigtmann. In this way, all of the poet's words come into their own and their effect is reinforced by the bizarre, filigree and detailed drawings of his potato people . The book was named one of the most beautiful books in 2004. In 2005, an edition of 100 copies was published by the Thoms Gallery, signed and numbered, an artist book illustrated by Kay Voigtmann with 7 drawings on Nicklas Quinten's text "Auction, it's auction".

In autumn 2009 Kay Voigtmann illustrated the collection of anecdotes for the edition Büchergilde again . The figures he designed with elongated limbs and peculiar proportions underline the collected meanness but also the humanities of famous writers and scholars such as Balzac, Ibsen, Swift or Hegel.

Various exhibitions accompanied the work of this artist.
