Kayhan Özgenç

Kayhan Özgenç (born December 2, 1969 in Bremen ) is a Turkish- German journalist and deputy editor-in-chief of Business Insider .

Career

After his traineeship at the Verdener Aller newspaper , Özgenç studied social and economic history, politics and criminology in Hamburg. He then went to the news magazine Focus in 1997 . There he worked, among other things, as head of the Hamburg and Berlin offices. In 2010 he became head of the “Investigative Research” department. In 2011, Özgenc moved to Bild am Sonntag as head of the investigative department , where he has been a member of the editor-in-chief since 2018. On January 1, 2020, he switched to Business-Insider as Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

Özgenç is married to the German journalist and author Ulrike Bartholomäus and has one child.

Positions and journalistic style

Özgenç regularly takes positions on political issues. In addition to comments in Bild am Sonntag and Bild.de , his knowledge is regularly in demand in specialist media. I.a. he gave insights into the work of an investigative journalist in an interview with the magazine business journalist . In his reports, he names the corporate decision-makers by full name. He is an advocate of independent research by editorial offices. Journalism will only retain its relevance in the future if journalists collect facts on their own.

Awards

In 2006 Özgenç received the Henri Nannen Prize for “Best Investigative Achievement” for reporting on the VW affair . In 2016 he and Jan C. Wehmeyer received the Helmut Schmidt Journalist Prize . In 2017 he was named “Business Journalist of the Year” by the trade journal business journalist . Özgenç is the first tabloid journalist to receive this award.
