Kayla Banwarth (born January 21, 1989 in Dubuque , Iowa ) is an American volleyball player and coach. She became world champion in 2014 and won the Olympic bronze medal in 2016.

Career

Banwarth began her career in 2006 at the University of Nebraska . From 2011 to 2016, the Libera was part of the US national team , with which they won the World Cup in Italy in 2014 and the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . She also won the World Grand Prix in 2015 and the NORCECA championship in 2013 and 2015 .

From 2011 to 2014 Banwarth was also active in various foreign clubs. She played for SVS Post Schwechat ( 2012 Austrian champion ), the German Bundesliga club Dresdner SC and Rabita Baku (2014 Azerbaijani champion).

Banwarth has received several awards as “Best Acceptance Player”.

Since 2020 Banwarth has been the trainer of the "Ole Miss Rebels" at the University of Mississippi .
