The keechelus lake is a lake in Kittitas County in the US state of Washington . The natural lake is 16 km northwest of Easton and is dammed by the Keechelus Dam to a size of 12.7 km². The lake's runoff is considered the source of the Yakima River .

The dam is an earth dam and was built by the Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Yakima Project for artificial irrigation. The dam, completed in 1916, is 39 m high and 584 m long.

The name Keechelus comes from an Indian language and means “few fish” in contrast to Kachess Lake , which is called “rich in fish”. The lake is located in the Wenatchee National Forest . The lake is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts and anglers.
