The Keele River is a left tributary of the Mackenzie River in Canada's Northwest Territories .
The Keele River rises about 25 km south of MacMillan Pass , the end point of Canol Road , in the Selwyn Mountains on the border with the Yukon Territory . The river flows east through the Backbone and Canyon Ranges . It takes up the Natla River from the right and later the Twitya River from the left . The Keele River flows through a sparsely populated region of the Mackenzie Mountains . After about 410 km the river reaches the Mackenzie River , 50 km south-southeast of Tulita .
The Keele River is a destination for whitewater canoeing . The degree of difficulty of the rapids varies between I and II with a few places in class III. The Keele River is often navigated in conjunction with the Natla River, a tributary. The latter is more demanding and has class III-IV rapids.
