Keith Olbermann (2009)

Keith Theodore Olbermann (born January 27, 1959 in New York City ) is an American presenter of news and sports programs on television and radio and a political commentator.

Olbermann, whose ancestors came from Germany and who initially gained fame as a sports commentator, presented the program Countdown with Keith Olbermann on Current TV from June 2011 to March 2012 , a one-hour news program in which he presented and commented on the most important events of the day . This show had previously run on MSNBC since 2003 . He also plays The Dan Patrick Show on ESPN Radio . Olbermann is considered a sharp and often aggressive critic of Bill O'Reilly , whose program ran parallel to Countdown on FOX News , and other right-wing populists (especially Ann Coulter , Rush Limbaugh , Glenn Beck ) and George W. Bush , especially his policy of restriction of freedom rights in the so-called anti-terror fight .

In November 2010, Olbermann was temporarily suspended by Phil Griffin , the head of NBC News , because, contrary to the broadcaster's guidelines, he had made private campaign donations to Democratic Congress candidates without prior consultation with the broadcaster's management. After protests, the suspension was lifted a few days later.

He also moderated special programs on MSNBC on current events such as elections, primaries or the State of the Union Address .

Since the NFL returned to NBC with the Sunday Night NFL game in the 2007/08 season , Olbermann has also been back as a sports presenter. He co- hosted Football Night in America , a show that would prepare for the next Sunday Night NFL game .

On January 21, 2011, Olbermann announced that he would not continue his broadcast on NBC. NBC confirmed the termination of his contract.

Olbermann then became head of news at Current TV , an independent broadcaster founded by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. There he moderated Countdown with Keith Olbermann again until March 30, 2012. Current TV and Olbermann parted in a dispute, the moderator announced legal action. From 2013 to 2015 he hosted the sports program Olbermann on ESPN 2. According to the magazine Variety, the channel management praised the quality of the program, but it was hoped for higher audience numbers. The Hollywood Reporter, however, suspected that Olbermann's critical comments on the leadership of the National Football League played a role in ending the show.

Keith Olbermann has been working for GQ - Gentlemen's Quarterly since 2016 , where he appears primarily as a sharp critic of Donald Trump , for example in the YouTube series The Closer and The Resistance .
