Keith Tapia

Keith Tapia (* 29. September 1990 in Bronx , New York , USA ) is a Puerto Rican boxer in the cruiserweight division .

Amateur career

In the amateurs Tapia came in the heavyweight and won in the in Istanbul held Cadet World Championships in 2006, a bronze medal , but he won among others against the Turks Denizcan Gokkaya with 12: 9 judges' votes on points and was defeated in the semifinals the Russians Vitali Kudukhov, who won the tournament with 15:10 judges' votes.

The following year Tapia again took part in the Cadet World Championships, which this time were held in Baku . There he won the gold medal this time . He defeated Joseph Arguello from the USA and Rashad Abdullayev from Azerbaijan each on points and Sergey Smolin from Ukraine early in round 3.

Professional career

The standard boom made his professional debut in 2011 with a victory by technical knockout in the 1st round against his compatriot Andrew Kuilan.

Tapia suffered his first and so far only defeat on May 13, 2016 for the vacant NABF title, when he was clearly defeated in a 10-round fight against Andrew Tabiti .

In September 2017, however, Tapia came back with a clear and unanimous victory over Nigerian Lateef Kayode .
