Keith Richard Wegeman (born August 28, 1929 in Denver , † August 22, 1974 in Mexico ) was an American ski jumper .

Career

Born in Denver Colorado , Wegemann began skiing at the age of three as the son of ski instructor Al Wegemann. Wegemann competed in races in the Alpine and Nordic disciplines up to his tenth birthday. Wegemann became a member of the National Ski Team at the University of Denver . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lake Placid in 1950 , he finished 24th in individual jumping on the normal hill. Two years later he was part of the squad for the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo . There he jumped from the normal hill to 62.5 and 61.5 meters and thus reached level on points with the Finn Olavi Kuronen the 12th place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun , Wegemann jumped 73 and 75 meters and was thus tied with Art Devlin and Olavi Kuronen in 13th place at the end of the competition .

After his active career, he became a ski instructor. At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he was active as a technical consultant. A little later Wegemann moved to Los Angeles to take a job in television. As a presenter he led the show Ski Tips . He was also seen in an episode of the Route 66 series as a skier.

After he died in 1974, he was posthumously inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame 15 years later . Wegemann's older brother Paul started as a Nordic combined athlete and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. Keith Wegemann's daughter Katherine Kelly Lang became known as an actress.
