Kel Kodheli

Kel Kodheli (born December 24, 1918 in Shkodra , Qark Shkodra , † February 18, 2006 in Tirana ) was an Albanian painter .

life and work

As a child, Kodheli attended drawing classes with Odhise Paskali and Lasgush Poradeci . He studied from 1939 to graduation in 1943 at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma with Carlo Silviera. Then he returned to Tirana. Kodheli worked as a graphic designer and designer of banknotes at the Bank of Albania and later as a teacher. Kodheli mainly painted portraits . In 2003 he received the “Piktorit të Merituar” award.

Most of his works are owned by the Tirana National Art Gallery and a few more in the Shkodra Art Gallery and are family owned. In 2017, Emrush or The Arab's Portrait (1948) was exhibited posthumously at documenta 14 .
