Kellerwald agate
Kellerwald agate , also known as Kellerwald agate or Kellerwald jasper , is a gemstone that occurs in the area of the Kellerwald in Hesse and is still processed there today. In this case, the addition of agate is more of a trade name than the mineralogically correct address.

Kellerwalder agate is actually a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO 2 ), which is colored dark red to reddish brown ( iron pebbles ) due to finely distributed inclusions of hematite and is permeated by white, also microcrystalline quartz veins. This mineral aggregate is sometimes also referred to as jasper or, better, "rubble jasper".
The Kellerwald agate is mainly found in the form of inclusions in igneous rocks in the Kellerwald, but also in the edema .
Stones of good quality and distinctive markings are usually cut in the local gemstone cutting shop in Berg Freiheit near Bad Wildungen and processed into jewelry.
