Ken Dowsing

Kenneth Richard Dowsing (born February 3, 1950 in Ipswich / Suffolk ) is a British 2D animator, film director , author , painter and film producer .

Life

Ken Dowsing attended St. Joseph's College in Birkfield-Ipswich, then attended Ipswich Art School. In art school, he began experimenting with 16mm films . Painting, drawing and music fascinated and occupied him during his time at Ipswich Art School. In 1967 the East Anglian Daily Times hired him as a press artist. In 1968 he went to London and worked as a trainee animator at Wyatt and Cattanio .

The 1970s and 1980s

In 1970 Dowsing went to New York and worked on the pilot version of the film Fritz the Cat . In 1972 Hanna Barbera brought him to Sydney . There Dowsing worked as an animator until 1973. Back in London he worked as a freelancer until 1978 when he was called to Düsseldorf. In 1979 the Munich film production company Kruse-Film hired him as an animation director, for whom he worked for nine years.

In 1983, the TV show Formula One started on ARD , for which Ken Dowsing developed and drawn the mascot Teasy .

1989 until today

In 1989 Dowsing founded his own advertising film production company in Munich. This company has since specialized in the field of trickery. In the meantime, this trick area not only includes cartoons, but also other types of trick such as model trick, puppet trick, 3D to SFX. A large part of it is the combination of trick with real film. In 2000 Dowsing created the hand puppets The Fukkets . Together with Charles Green he produced several skits with these dolls.

From 2008 to 2015 Ken Dowsing drew interpretations on the book Ulysses by James Joyce . From 2010 exhibitions with drawings, etchings and lithographs on the subject of "Ulysses" took place across Europe.

Since 2016 Ken Dowsing has been drawing still lifes and portraits again.

He lives and works with his wife in Austria in Styria.
