Kengo Hirachi

Kengo Hirachi ( Japanese 平地 健 吾 , Hirachi Kengo ; born November 30, 1964 ) is a Japanese mathematician who deals with geometric analysis.

Hirachi studied mathematics from 1983 at the University of Osaka with a bachelor's degree in 1987 and a master's degree in 1989 and received his doctorate there in 1994 with Gen Komatsu (The second variation of the Bergman kernel for ellipsoids). He then worked as a research assistant at Osaka University, became a lecturer in Osaka in 1996 , associate professor at Tokyo University in 2000 and professor in 2010.

In 2009 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study , 2004/05 visiting scholar at Princeton University , 1995/96 at MSRI and 2004 at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute for Mathematical Physics .

He deals with CR-manifolds and the Bergman kernel (after Stefan Bergman ) or the closely related Szegö kernel and the theory of parabolic invariants. In a paper in the Annals of Mathematics from 2000, he investigated CR invariants for strongly pseudoconvex boundaries by examining the logarithmic singularity of the Szegö kernel function, which he played a similar role in CR manifolds as the heat kernel in assigns to Riemannian geometry.

In 2014 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Seoul (Q and Q-prime curvature in CR geometry). In 2006 he received the Stefan Bergman Prize, in 2012 the Inoue Prize for Science, in 2003 the Geometry Prize of the Japanese Mathematical Society and in 1999 the Takebe Senior Prize.
