history

Finds of a megalith , a tumulus , a polished ax and arrowheads made of bronze prove an early settlement in the area of the municipality. There was a significant Protestant community in Issor in the 16th and 17th centuries . The revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 led to the destruction of the Protestant church and the transfer of the pastor to the galleys . However, a census in the 18th century showed the positive effects of this action, because it turned out that most of the villagers were able to write. The long time modest manorial of Issor was more powerful than at the beginning of the 18th century in the hands of the Barons of Laàs passed.

Parish church of Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste by Issor
  • Parish church of Issor, dedicated to the Evangelist John . The church preserved an apse calotte , a side entrance and a holy water font from the Romanesque era , which was intended exclusively for Cagots , members of a group of people who were discriminated against in Spain and France from the 13th to well into the 19th century and who were largely excluded from social life and formed a large community in Issor. At the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century, a partial or total new building took place, as the dates 1687, 1701 and 1704 on stones show. It falls precisely at the time when the Protestant church was destroyed, and its building materials were reused in the construction of this church. In 1924 the bell tower was built. The nave contains a main nave with two aisles, each equipped with an altar. The gallery , which is traditionally reserved for men during Holy Mass , is located at the rear of the church. It has two rows of benches and is accessible via stairs. The parapet of the gallery in the Louis-Seize style is made of oak and is largely from the 18th century, some parts are even older. The reredos of the main age made of gilded wood in the Baroque style dates from the 17th century. Coiled columns of Corinthian order carry a common cornice and frame a painting with Christ crucified and two niches with statues of Saints Peter and Paul . The reredos of the two side aisles are made in the Rococo style .
