Attractions
- Parish church, dedicated to the Assumption . The entrance porch at the base of the bell tower is opened by several round arches. A stone plaque can be seen above one of these arches, in which the year “1700”, the date the church was built, is carved. The board is very simple, because above the number it is only decorated with a Latin cross . Such a decoration of arches is characteristic of Romanesque architecture. Another arch shows a strange head with a hat and wings. The roof of the bell tower gives it a typical soulful appearance, because it is covered by a hood with a ridge turret. There are three crosses on the roof ridge of the hood as well as on the ridge . This arrangement is called clocher calvaire because the shape is reminiscent of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ with the two thieves on Mount Golgotha and is widespread in the Soule. Two side chapels together with the single-nave nave form a false transept. The year "1860" above the entrance to the church confirms the end of extensive restoration work. At the end of the 19th or the beginning of the 20th century, decorative glass windows were used, works by the glass painter Auguste Montaut from Oloron, and in 2006 the sacristy was completely renovated. The parish church is equipped with an altarpiece , made of wood, marble and stone. According to the rural baroque style , it consists of one piece with the tabernacle and demonstrates an economical solution for small rural parishes. The reredos are decorated with an abundance of images, including many depictions of angels .
- Chapel dedicated to Barbara of Nicomedia . It is located in the district of Galharraga in the hilly area on the right of the season. Saint Barbara is called upon by the faithful above all for protection from storms. The traditional rite stipulates that the pilgrims who come to the chapel put a needle into the cloth that covers the statue of Barbara so that she does not forget the wishes made. The lintel above the entrance to the chapel is provided with a simple marble plaque on which the year "1679" can be seen under a cross, an indication of the time the chapel was built, which was completely restored at the beginning of 2000.
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture has traditionally been one of the municipality's most important economic factors. It is based in particular on sheep breeding and corn cultivation. Menditte is located in the AOC zones of Ossau-Iraty , a traditionally produced semi-hard cheese made from sheep's milk, as well as the pig breed and the ham "Kintoa".
