Escout ( Occitan : Escot ) is a French municipality with 438 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Aquitaine ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Oloron-Sainte-Marie and the Canton of Oloron-Sainte-Marie-2 (until 2015: Canton of Oloron-Sainte-Marie-Est ). The inhabitants are called Escoutois .

geography

Escout is about 14 kilometers southwest of Pau im Béarn . The Gave d'Ossau delimits the municipality in the southwest. Escout is surrounded by the neighboring communities Estialescq in the north and north-west, Lasseube in the north-east, Escou in the east, Herrère in the south and south-east, Oloron-Sainte-Marie in the west and south-west and Précilhon in the west.

The Pau – Canfranc railway runs through the municipality.
